In Conversation With Qormuz - Reimagining Saudi Heritage Through Craft

Qormuz is a Saudi brand born from a deep connection to heritage and the artistry of local craftsmanship. With a signature crimson palette and a contemporary design language, the label brings tradition and innovation into quiet balance - creating pieces that feel modern, yet unmistakably rooted.

Each creation is developed in close collaboration with Saudi artisans, from the tranquil farms of Al-Ahsa to the workshops of Jeddah and Riyadh, where regional character and handwork shape every detail. We spoke with Qormuz about translating Saudi memory into form, refining traditional motifs for today, and why the human hand remains at the heart of the brand.

What inspired the creation of Qormuz as a celebration of Saudi heritage?

The inspiration came from a deep sense of belonging. I would notice the details of our heritage in old homes, in majlis settings, in the colors of doors—and feel they deserved to live again in a contemporary spirit. Qormuz is not just a brand; it’s an attempt to translate Saudi memory into a modern design language that respects the past while speaking confidently about the present.

How do you blend traditional Saudi motifs with contemporary design?

I don’t treat a motif as decoration — I treat it as a story. I take a traditional element and distill it, refine it, sometimes re-engineer it, so it becomes lighter, clearer, and aligned with today’s lifestyle. The goal is for each piece to feel genuinely contemporary, yet rooted—recognizable to those who understand the details.

How central is local craftsmanship to the making of each Qormuz piece?

Craftsmanship is the heart. Without the artisan, there is no soul. I can design a strong concept, but what gives it life is the human hand that executes it. I ensure every piece carries the trace of someone who worked on it with passion — because that human touch is what distinguishes it from any cold, industrial product.

How do your collaborations with artisans across Al-Ahsa, Jeddah, and Riyadh shape the collection?

Each city has a distinct character. In Al-Ahsa, I feel depth and calm; in Jeddah, openness and diversity; in Riyadh, modernity and strong presence. Working with artisans from these regions enriches the collection — it becomes a narrative of Saudi Arabia in its diversity, not a single voice but a layered story.

What has been a defining moment in Qormuz’s journey so far?

The defining moment was seeing people connect emotionally with the pieces — as if they were part of their own memories. When someone tells me, “This reminds me of my grandmother’s house,” or “I feel represented by this,” I know the message has reached them. For me, emotional impact will always matter more than sales numbers.
